About Julie Foudy
Former co-captain of the United States Women’s National Soccer Team, Julie Foudy, is American soccer royalty. Foudy joined the national team in 1987 in the middle of her All-American career at Stanford University. As the captain of the Cardinals she led her team to four consecutive appearances in the NCAA tournament and twice finished as the runner-up for the Hermann Trophy.
From 1987 to 2004 Foudy played in four FIFA World Cup tournaments and three Olympic Games, leading team USA to World Cup victories in 1991 and 1999, two Gold Medals in 1996 and 2004 and a Silver Medal in 2000. For her role in the enormous success of Team USA during what is dubbed as the “Golden Era” of US women’s soccer, she was honored with induction into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2007.
Since her retirement she’s become one of the most trusted and respected soccer analysts on television, providing on-air analysis and commentary for ABC, NBC, ESPN, and ESPN2’s coverage of women’s soccer at the professional and international level.
