About Matt Mitrione
Matt Mitrione is a former professional football player and current mixed martial artist. Mitrione attended Sacred Heart-Griffin High School where he was a threesport athlete in football, swimming and diving, and track and field. As a senior, Mitrione received All-State honors playing defensive line. In his teenage years he also spent time training in Shotokan Karate, kickboxing and other combat sports. Mitrione attended Purdue University on a football scholarship and when he was a senior, he broke his right foot during practice. Mitrione went undrafted, but the New York Giants offered him a contract in 2002. The following year, Mitrione suffered an ankle injury that required seven surgeries to correct. In 2004, the Giants released Mitrione and he had brief stints with the Minnesota Vikings and the San Francisco 49ers. After his football career, Mitrione turned to mixed martial arts. Mitrione has fought in a total of 12 fights and has won 9 of them.
