About Matt Birk
Matt Birk is a 6x Pro Bowl selection, 2x All-Pro selection and Super Bowl XLVII champion. Born in St. Paul, Minnesota, Birk attended Cretin-Derham Hall High School where he played football, basketball and track & field. Birk was an All-St. Paul Conference honoree, All-Academic All-State honoree and an All-State honoree in football and basketball. Birk attended Harvard University where he earned All-Ivy League honors, All-New England honors and Division I-AA All-ECAC first team football honors. The Minnesota Vikings selected Birk in the 6th round as the 173rd overall pick in the 1998 NFL Draft. While with the Vikings, Birk was a 6x Minnesota Vikings Man of the Year Award winner, and Ed Block Courage Award winner. After his contract expired with the Vikings, Birk signed with the Baltimore Ravens as an unrestricted free agent in 2009. Birk announced his retirement from football on February 22, 2013. In 2002, Birk founded the HIKE Foundation.
