About Mark Whipple
Mark Whipple, a former player himself, is currently the head football coach for the Minutemen at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Whipple was born in 1957 in New York and as a player, was a two-year starting quarterback at Brown University. Graduating from Brown in 1979 with a degree in political science, Whipple accepted his first coaching job as an assistant at St. Lawrence in 1980. Never looking back, Whipple has continued to coach since, with a wide variety of teams on his list. Some of these teams include his alma mater, Brown, along with the University of New Hampshire, the Miami Hurricanes football team, the quarterback coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers, the offensive assistant for the Philadelphia Eagles, and many more. Whipple accepted the job as head coach for UMass for the 2014 season and to date, has an impressive overall head coaching record of 124-68. Whipple was voted the AFCA Division I-AA Coach of the Year in 1998 and the Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year in 2003.
