About Mark Stoops
Mark Stoops turned the University of Kentucky football program into a winner. He led the Wildcats to one of their best seasons in school history in 2018. That season, UK won ten games for the first time since 1977 and Stoops was named SEC Coach of the Year. They also snapped a 31-game losing streak to the University of Florida and capped the year with a victory in the Citrus Bowl. Stoops had already had two winning seasons prior to that magical run and also led Kentucky to an 8-5 season in 2019. He originally took over the program in 2013.
For a decade prior to coming to Lexington, Stoops built up a reputation as one of the best defensive minds in college football. He was a defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach at both Arizona and Florida State. Stoops first made waves in coaching circles by coaching defensive backs at Miami during one of the great runs in program history from 2001-03.
Stoops began his career as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Iowa. He went on to coach at Nardonia High School in Ohio before making stops at USF, Wyoming and Houston. Stoops is the brother of former Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops and former Arizona head coach Mike Stoops.
