Mark Malone

Mark Malone was an outstanding NFL quarterback from 1980-1989. Born (in 1958) and raised in California, Malone became the nation’s most recruited quarterback out of his California high school, in addition to being recruited by the USOC as a potential decathlete for the 1980 Olympics. Settling down with Arizona State University, Malone was a two-year starter there and proceeded to be selected in the first round of the 1980 draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Throughout his eight seasons with the Steelers, Malone notably became the fourth-ranked quarterback in franchise history and the first quarterback in Steeler history to complete over 80% of his passes in a game. Malone went on to play for the San Diego Chargers for a season and ended his playing career after a single season with the New York Jets in 1989. Pushing through and coming back from a serious knee injury in 1982, Malone is known for his determination and perseverance. He is also known for his sportscasting career after retiring from the playing aspect of the game. Malone’s most recent job includes his title as a co-host for a radio talk show broadcast by NBC Sports Radio with former NFL quarterback Donovan McNabb. Even after retirement, Malone continues to do great things for the NFL.
