Marcus Semien Biography

Marcus Semien is one of the best middle infielders in baseball. Semien was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the sixth round of the 2011 MLB Draft. He made his major league debut for the White Sox in 2013, but was traded to the Oakland Athletics following the 2014 season. Semien continued to work hard on his defense in Oakland. He was also a noted power hitter, slugging over 30 home runs for the first time in 2019 on the way to being named to the All-MLB Second Team. Semien's defensive improvement was further recognized when he joined the Toronto Blue Jays in 2021. He won his first Gold Glove and also took his game at the plate to a new level. Semien broke the league record with 45 home runs as a second baseman. He was named to his first All-Star team and was a First Team All-MLB pick. After betting on himself with a one-year contract in Toronto, Semien signed a long-term deal with the Texas Rangers that offseason and became an All-Star for the second time in 2023.
