About Major Applewhite
Major Applewhite is one of the bright offensive minds in college football and the current head coach at South Alabama.Applewhite previously spent three seasons as the offensive coordinator for the Jaguars and has head coaching experience, spending three seasons leading the program at the University of Houston.
Before his stint with the Cougars, Applewhite was on the staff at his alma mater Texas for six years under Mack Brown.He also spent a year as the offensive coordinator at Alabama and had coaching stops at Rice and Syracuse after a two-year stint as a Longhorns graduate assistant.
Applewhite is one of the greatest quarterbacks in UT history.In his freshman season, he went 8-2 as a starter and won Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year.The following year, Applewhite stepped his game up even more and was named Co-Offensive Player of the Year and a first-team all-conference pick.
The next two seasons, Applewhite split time with Chris Simms.In his final game, Applewhite would throw for a school-record 473 yards in the 2001 Holliday Bowl.He finished as the then-career record holder with 8,353 yards and was 22-8 as a Texas starter.
