About Magglio Ordonez
Magglio Ordonez was one of the most respected baseball sluggers in the 2000s. Ordonez made six All-Star teams and was a three-time Silver Slugger recipient. The 2007 American League batting champion hit .309 for his career. That season, Ordonez finished runner-up to Alex Rodriguez for AL MVP. He split his career between the Chicago White Sox and Detroit Tigers. Ordonez signed what was the second largest contract in the Tigers history in 2005. With Detroit, he went to the World Series in 2006. His walk-off home run off of the Oakland A’s Huston Street capped an ALCS sweep that got the team to the Fall Classic. Ordonez retired after the 2011 season with over 2,000 career hits. Currently, Ordonez is mayor of the Juan Antonio Sotillo Municipality in Venezuela. His son, Magglio Jr., was a 38th round pick of the Tigers out of high school in 2014 and is currently in the minor leagues.
