Lisa Fernandez

Lisa Fernandez played her collegiate Fastpitch softball at the University of California, Los Angeles after leading St. Joseph High School in Lakewood, California to a CIF Championship as a senior. During her career at UCLA she earned four consecutive first-team All-American selections from 1990 to 1993 and won the Honda Award as the nations top player three times. In 1993 she became the first softball player in history to win the Honda-Broderick Cup as the outstanding collegiate female athlete in sports. When all was said and done she had led the Bruins to NCAA National Championships in 1990 and 1992 and runner-up finishes at the Women’s College World Series in 1991 and 1993. While at UCLA she also played for the US Women’s Olympic Softball Team and earned a gold medal at the 1991 Pan American Games. She went on to lead the USA to gold medals at the 1996, 2000 and 2004 Olympic games and a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic games. At the 2000 Olympic games in Sydney she set a record with a stellar 0.47 ERA and 25 strikeouts in a single game.
