Lin Dunn

Lin Dunn graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin in 1969 and began her career as a head women’s college basketball coach in 1972 at Austin Peay State University. After five seasons at Austin Peay she was named the head coach at the University of Mississippi, where she remained until being hired as the head coach at the University of Miami in 1978. Dunn coached at Miami for nine seasons and then headed the Purdue University from 1987 to 1996. During her 24-years as a college coach she led her teams to seven NCAA tournament appearances and a Final Four appearance in 1994. After the 1996 season she was hired as the head coach of the Portland Power in the American Basketball League, and went on to be named the ABL Coach of the Year in 1998. In 2000 she headed to the WNBA as the first ever coach of the expansion Seattle Storm, and led them to a playoff appearance in 2002. From 2004 to 2007 she served as an assistant with the Indiana Fever, and was promoted to head coach in 2008, where she served until her retirement in 2014. While coaching the Fever she reached the pinnacle of achievement, leading her team to a WNBA title in 2012. Dunn was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014.
