Kevin Young

Kevin Young currently serves as the head coach of the Brigham Young University men’s basketball program. Young started his coaching career after playing at Middle Georgia and Clayton State in 2004. He spent nearly a decade in the NBA G-League before ascending to the NBA, where he served with the Philadelphia 76ers (2016–2020) and the Phoenix Suns (2020–2024), eventually earning the role of associate head coach.

In April 2024, Young was selected to lead BYU's program, bringing with him NBA-level structures and methodologies. He immediately overhauled support systems—adding analytics, nutrition, strength, and performance staff—and implemented professional-style preparation and offense. That first season, he guided the Cougars to a 26–10 record, a Sweet Sixteen berth, and BYU’s most victories since 2016. His success earned him a long-term contract extension announced in June 2025.

Young’s recruiting prowess is backed by his NBA pedigree—he’s secured elite talent like Egor Demin, AJ Dybantsa, Brody Kozlowski, and more. He leverages relationships with NBA stars like Devin Booker and Kevin Durant, promoting BYU as a premier destination for those chasing an NBA future. Booker fondly refers to BYU as “KYU,” and Young emphasizes truth, preparation, and player development in his coaching philosophy.

A finalist for the Joe B. Hall National Coach of the Year Award, Young is admired for his direct communication, humility, and strong work ethic—traits recognized by both players and peers. He’s married to Melissa, and they have three children.

In less than two years, Kevin Young has transformed BYU basketball—modernizing the program, reestablishing NCAA tournament success, and creating a foundation for long-term success and an NBA pipeline.
