Katie Uhlaender

Katie Uhlaender was born in Vail, Colorado and resides in Breckenridge. As a youngster she grew up around professional athletics. Her father was an outfielder in the major leagues and coached for the Cleveland Indians. With that influence she became a driven competitor at a young age and set high goals for herself to one day become a professional athlete as well. Eventually she discovered her niche as a skeleton racer, with the winter side of the sport being a natural fit for the Colorado native. Since 2003 she has won four medals at the FIBT World Championships with one silver in 2008 and three bronzes in 2007, 2008 and 2009. In 2007 and 2008 she won the women’s Skeleton World Cup and went on to finish sixth at the 2006 Turin Olympic games. She returned to Olympic action again in 2010 and 2014, and finished a career high 4th at the London Olympics. In 2012 she reached the pinnacle of her career, capturing two gold medals at the World Championships in Lake Placid.
