The June 5, 2000 birthplace of Kate Martin is Edwardsville Illinois where she attended college at the Iowa Hawkeyes. During her five-year college career Martin played in every game of 139 contests while helping Iowa win 132 games and reach four consecutive NCAA Tournament tournaments. During her college years Martin received Second-Team All-Big Ten recognition in 2024 while earning the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award three times from 2020 through 2022.
The WNBA Draft selected Kate Martin as the 18th overall pick for the Las Vegas Aces during the 2024 event. The team included Martin on their opening day roster and she appeared in 34 matches during her rookie season while scoring 2.6 points and grabbing 1.6 rebounds and distributing 0.9 assists per game. The WNBA Expansion Draft allowed the Golden State Valkyries to acquire Martin in December 2024. During the 2025 season Martin has played in 6 out of 6 games while averaging 6.5 points along with 2.5 rebounds and 0.3 assists per game.

The couple maintains a long-distance relationship between their coastal homes while they regularly meet each other and support their professional pursuits.
