About Katarina Witt
Katarina Witt won two gold medals in figure skating at the 1984 Sarajevo Olympics and 1988 Calgary Olympics. Witt was born in East Germany, which is today part of Berlin. She began figure skating at a young age and quickly rose to the top with her unbelievable skills on the ice. With both beauty and grace on the ice, she captured six consecutive European Championships from 1983 to 1988 after winning a silver medal in 1982. At the World Championships she was just as successful, winning four gold medals from 1984 to 1988 and winning silver in 1982 and 1986. In 1988 she embarked on a professional career and traveled the world as a part of the Witt and Boitano Skating show, which sold out Madison Square Garden. She also appeared in several films, including Carmon on Ice in 1989, which earned her an Emmy Award. In 1994 she published her autobiography, Meine Jahre Zwischen Pflicht und Kur, meaning My Years Between Compusories and Freestyle. The following year she took her rightful place in the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame.
