About Jose Rijo
Jose Rijo is a legendary Cincinnati Reds pitcher. Rijo did not originally start his career with the Reds, initially making his debut in 1984 with the New York Yankees. He went on to spend three seasons with the Oakland Athletics before finding his home in Cincinnati in 1988. Each of his first six seasons with the Reds, he posted a sub-3.00 ERA. The highlight of his career came in the 1990 World Series, when he pitched 15.1 innings, struck out 15 and posted a 0.59 ERA en route to winning two games. For his efforts, Rijo was named World Series MVP. He would continue his strong play in Cincinnati, leading the league in strikeouts in 1993 and making the All-Star team in 1994. Major elbow injuries derailed his career from there on out, but he made a remarkable comeback as a relief pitcher in 2001. He was elected to the Cincinnati Reds Hall of Fame after his retirement.
