Johnny Miller

Johnny Miller grew up in sunny San Francisco, California and was a member of the Olympic Club’s junior golf section as an amateur. Prior to graduating from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1965 he won the San Francisco city junior title in 1963 and then captured the 1964 U.S. Junior Amateur championship. In 1965 he joined the golf team at Brigham Young University and qualified for the 1966 U.S. Open at the Olympic Club, where he grew up. Two years later he won the California State Amateur Championship and was named an All-American. Upon earning his degree in physical education he joined the PGA Tour and won his first tour event. He’d go on to win 35 professional tournaments, including 25 wins on the PGA Tour. During the 1970’s he was among the most dominant players on tour, capturing the 1973 U.S. Open and The Open Championship title in 1976. He also finished as the runnerup in the Masters Tournament three times during that span. In 1974 Miller was named both PGA Player of the Year and the PGA Tour leading money winner. In 1996 he was enshrined in the World Golf Hall of Fame.
