About John Gibbons
John Gibbons is the former manager of the Toronto Blue Jays who served two stints with the team.Gibbons first managed in Toronto from 2004-08, before being rehired from 2013-2018.In his first stint, he finished exactly .500 at 305-305. The second time around, Gibbons won the American League East Division in 2015 and also helped lead the Blue Jays to the playoffs in 2016.
Between his time with the Blue Jays, Gibbons served as bench coach for the Kansas City Royals and manager of the Double-A San Antonio Missions. Due to a friendship with former Toronto general manager J.P. Ricciardi, he began his coaching career with Toronto in 2002. Gibbons was a player in the New York Mets system and the team selected him in the first round of the 1980 MLB Draft. He played in 14 big league games spread between 1984 and 1986. Gibbons was the bullpen catcher when the Mets won the 1986 World Series and retired from playing in 1990. Raised in San Antonio, he was drafted out of Douglas MacArthur High School.
