About John Barnes
John Barnes is one of the greatest players in English soccer history. He spent the majority of his lengthy club career with Watford and Liverpool. Over the first six years of his career, he made 296 appearances and scored 85 goals for Watford. From 1987-1997, Barnes starred for Liverpool. He was named PFA Players' Player of the Year twice. With his help, the club won two First Division and FA Cup titles. Overall with Liverpool, Barnes scored 106 goals in 403 matches. FourFourTwo magazine has ranked him as the greatest player in club history. Barnes ended his club career with Newcastle United and Charlton Athletic. He also made 79 appearances for the English national team in his career. Barnes has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire and was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2005. In retirement, he has had stints as a coach and broadcaster.
