About Joe Theismann
Joe Theismann played his college ball at the University of Notre Dame. In 1971 he was selected in the fourth round of the NFL Draft by the Miami Dolphins and in the 39th round of the MLB Draft by the Minnesota Twins. This was an unbelievable feat, and showed the true athleticism of Theismann. However, he chose to pursue a career in neither the NFL or MLB, and after negotiations with the Dolphins fell through he played in the CFL from 1971 to 1973.
In 1974 he finally joined the NFL as a member of the Washington Redskins, where he played for the remainder of his professional career. In 1983 he helped the Redskins to a Super Bowl Championship after winning his second consecutive NFL MVP Award. In addition to being named one of the 70 Greatest Redskins of all-time he was honored with induction into the College Football Hall of Fame in 2003.
