About Joe Rudi
Joe Rudi played 16 years in the big leagues after making his Major League Debut with the Kansas City Royals in 1967. After one season in Kansas City he joined the Oakland Athletics from 1968 to 1976 and became one of the top corner outfielders in the game, helping them to three consecutive World Series titles from 1972 to 1974, earning three All-Star selections in 1972, 1974 and 1975 and three consecutive Gold Glove Awards from 1974 to 1976. Rudi’s best year came in 1974 when he posted career highs with 22 homeruns, 39 doubles and 99 RBI while also hitting .293 and scoring 73 runs. That season he finished second in the American League MVP voting for the second time in his career, with the other occurrence coming in 1972 when he hit a career high .305. In 1981 he signed with the Boston Red Sox and then returned to Oakland in 1982 to retire as a member of the Athletics.
