About Jim McElwain
Jim McElwain had a career spanning four decades in college football. During that time, McElwain served as a head coach at Colorado State, Florida, and Central Michigan.
In his last head coaching stop with the Chippewas, McElwain won the MAC West Division twice in six season. He also previously had two division championships while at Florida.
In McElwain's final season at CSU, he went 10-2 and was named Mountain West Coach of the Year.That success followed seasons in which he gradually rebuilt the program, going from four wins in year one to eight wins in year two.
McElwain made his coaching name as the offensive coordinator at Alabama.They won two consecutive BCS National Titles with a high-octane Crimson Tide offense prior to him bolting for the Rams.
Before joining Alabama, McElwain held quarterback coaching jobs with the Oakland Raiders and Fresno State.He also coached at Michigan State, Louisville, and Montana State. McElwain’s coaching career started at his alma mater Eastern Washington.
