Jim McElwain Biography

Jim McElwain is dedicated to leading the next run of excellence for the Florida Gators football team.  After great success at Colorado State, McElwain was tasked with rebuilding a Florida football program that had fallen on hard times after two Urban Meyer National Championships.  He was 10-2 in his final season at CSU and was named Mountain West Coach of the Year.  That success followed seasons in which he gradually rebuilt the program, going from four wins in year one to eight wins in year two.   McElwain made his coaching name as the offensive coordinator at Alabama.  They won two consecutive BCS National Titles with a high-octane Crimson Tide offense prior to him bolting for the Rams.  Prior to joining Alabama, McElwain held quarterback coaching jobs with the Oakland Raiders and Fresno State.  He also coached at Michigan State, Louisville, and Montana State.  McElwain’s coaching career started at his alma mater Eastern Washington.
