Jesse Orosco Biography

Jesse Orosco is one of the greatest relief pitchers in baseball history.  His 1,252 appearances are a major league record.  Orosco pitched till he was 46 years old and is one of just 29 players to enter a game in four different decades.  He pitched for nine different franchises, but experienced the most success with his first team, the New York Mets.  Orosco made two All-Star teams while with the Mets and recorded many of his 144 career saves with the club.  In 1983, he had a career-best 1.47 ERA, 13 wins, 17 saves, and finished thire in National League Cy Young voting.  He threw five scoreless innings in the 1986 World Series and is famously remember for recording the final out in New York's Game 7 victory.  Orosco also hit an RBI single in the game in what would be his only postseason at-bat.  He went on to win a second World Series with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1988 and was a serviceable situational relief arm for the remainder of his career.
