About Jerry Stackhouse
Jerry Stackhouse had an amazing 18-year career in the NBA, garnering two All-Star selections in 2000 and 2001 with the Detroit Pistons. Stackhouse was a college star at North Carolina and immediately productive upon entering the league, earning All-Rookie First Team honors with the Philadelphia 76ers in 1996.
Stackhouse had to fight through injuries in the latter stages of his career but continued to be a reliable scorer. He was particularly a key piece for the Dallas Mavericks when they advanced to their first NBA Finals in 2006.
After his playing career was over, Stackhouse went into coaching, serving as an assistant with the Toronto Raptors and then winning a championship as the head coach of their D-League team, Raptors 905.
Stackhouse was subsequently hired as an assistant with the Memphis Grizzlies during the 2018-19 season before jumping into college basketball as the head coach of Vanderbilt. He led the Commodores for five seasons, earning SEC Coach of the Year honors in 2023 after a 22-win season.
No matter where Stackhouse goes on his career journey, he will always be a legend in North Carolina. His jersey is honored by the Tar Heels program. Stackhouse was the ACC Tournament MVP in 1994 and a consensus All-American the following year while leading UNC to the Final Four.
