About James Toney
Over three decades, James Toney put together one of the most impressive resumes in all of boxing. As an amateur boxer he posted a 31-2 record with 29 knockouts from 1983 to 1988 and won his pro debut with a knockout in 1988. Having knocked out so many of his opponents he earned the nickname “Lights Out” and would go on to become one of the most legendary boxers in history. Toney posted an overall record of 77-10 with 47 knockouts. He racked up a long list of titles that includes IBF titles in the Middleweight, Super Middleweight and Cruiserweight divisions, IBA titles in the Super Cruiserweight and Heavyweight divisions, WBU titles in the Light Heavyweight, Continental-Cruiserweight and Cruiserweight divisions and WBO, NBAO, IBA, IBU Heavyweight titles. His career honors include being named Ring Magazine Fighter of the Year in 2001 and 2003 and the Boxing Writers Association of America Fighter of the Year in 1991 and 2003. Outside the ring, he co-starred as Joe Frazier in the 2001 hit film Ali.
