Jake Shields Biography

Jake Shields is a well-known mixed martial artist from Summertown, Tennessee. Standing 6’0” and weighing in at 170 pounds, he currently competes in the welterweight and middleweight division. Shields has been an active competitor since 1999 while he attended community college at Cuesta College. He then accepted a wrestling scholarship to San Francisco State University in 2001 and completely immersed himself in the art of fighting. Shields has since won 31 of his 40 mixed martial arts matches and has earned a black belt in Brazilian JiuJitsu. He is best known for his career accomplishment of a 15-fight winning streak in the UFC. As a competitor for the United States in 2005, he won a bronze medal at the ADCC Submission Wrestling World Championship and a gold medal at the Pan American Championships. Outside of the ring, Shields is passionate about his vegetarian lifestyle and promotes it in any way he can.
