About Chad Mendes
Chad Mendes is one of the most successful fighters in the featherweight division in UFC history. Mendes fought three times for the promotion's featherweight belt. He also started his career on an impressive 16-1 streak, with the only loss coming in a title fight against Jose Aldo at UFC 142.
Mendes wrestled throughout high school and as a sophomore, he finished 8th in the state of California. As a junior, Mendes placed 5th and as a senior, he placed 3rd. He was also a Cadet All-American. Mendes attended Cal Poly for college where he earned NCAA All-American honors twice. As a senior, he placed 2nd in the 2008 NCAA championships when he fell to J Jaggers.
After college, Mendes began his training with the mixed martial arts team Team Alpha Male. On March 6, 2010, Mendes made his WEC debut against Erik Koch and he won the fight by unanimous decision. On October 28, 2010, WEC merged with the UFC and as a part of the merger; the WEC fighters were transferred to the UFC. Mendes’ UFC debut came on February 5, 2011 against Michihiro Omigawa and he won the fight by unanimous decision.
