Herschel Walker

Herschel Walker is a retired professional running back who is mostly known for his time as a player at the University of Georgia. A highly recruited high school athlete, Walker committed to the University of Georgia in 1980, and he instantly made an impact, finishing in the top three of the Heisman voting as a freshman. Widely considered to be the best collegiate running back of all time, Walker rushed for over 5,000 yards and 49 touchdowns in his three-year career, and was awarded the Heisman Trophy in 1982 as well as being named an All-American all three seasons. Walker was a big reason behind the Bulldogs’ 1980 undefeated season and national championship, and he was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999. Instead of staying for his senior season, Walker turned professional after his junior season by entering the USFL in 1983, where he would win the rushing title in 1983 and 1985, rushing for over 5,000 yards in his brief career. In the 1985 NFL Draft, Walker was selected by the Dallas Cowboys, and he joined the team in 1986 after the USFL folded. Walker played 11 seasons in the NFL, rushing for over 8,000 yards and 61 touchdowns, earning two Pro Bowl honors. Walker retired in 1997, but he will always be remembered as one of the best running backs of his time.
