Gareth Southgate Biography

Gareth Southgate has helped usher in a new era of success for the English men's national soccer team. Southgate has had tremendous achievements since becoming manager in 2016. He led England to the semifinals of the 2018 World Cup and to the final of UEFA Euro 2021. Southgate became the first manager of England to reach a major tournament final since 1966 and the third to ever make it to the World Cup semis. In 2018, he was named BBC Sports Personality of the Year Coach Award. Prior to becoming the senior team manager, Southgate led England's under-21 squad. His first coaching position came at Middlesbrough from 2006-2009. Southgate also had a successful career as a player, suiting up for Crystal Palace, Aston Villa and Middlesbrough.
