About Eddie Pope
Eddie Pope was a first-team All-American as a member of the North Carolina Tar Heels soccer team. From there, Pope went on to the MLS with D.C. United where in his first season he helped the team win an MLS Cup and followed that up by being named the 1997 Defender of the Year and another MLS Cup victory. Pope continued to impress in 1998 and helped United win the first continental honors for an MLS team with a win at the CONCACAF Champions Cup. Pope ended his MLS career after 10 seasons and was named to the MLS Best XI team 4 times. Pope also started every game over a 10-year career with the U.S. Men's National Team, making 82 caps and helping the USMNT to the CONCACAF Gold Cup Championship in 2005. Pope finished his soccer career in 2007 and went on to serve as the Director of Player Relations for the MLS Players Union. He is currently the director of the North American Soccer Division for the sports agency, Octagon.
