About Derrick Coleman
The first overall pick in the 1990 NBA Draft was Derrick Coleman. When he joined the Nets later that year he there was a lot of hype surrounding his low post game and he lived up to it, earning NBA Rookie of the Year honors in 1991. The following season he launched himself to stardom, averaging a double double with 20 points and 10 rebounds a game as an NBA sophomore. In 1995 he made his way to Philadelphia to play for the 76ers and would go on to play for the Charlotte Hornets and 76ers again before ending his career with the Detroit Pistons in 2005. During his 15-year career he scored over 12,000 points and posted over 7,000 rebounds. With one All-Star appearance in 1994 and two All-NBA Third Team selections in 1993 and 1994 he is widely considered to be one of the best down low players of the 1990’s.
