Darrin Fletcher Biography

Darrin Fletcher was one of the best catchers in baseball over a 14-year career. Fletcher originally made his debut with the Los Angeles Dodgers and spent parts of two seasons with the franchise. He went on to play for the Philadelphia Phillies for two years before finding a home with the Montreal Expos. Fletcher was named an All-Star in 1994. After signing with the Toronto Blue Jays, however, he had some of his best seasons. In 1999, he hit .291 with 18 home runs and a career-high 80 RBI. The following season, he hit .320 with a career-high 20 home runs and 58 RBI. That year, the Blue Jays tied a major league record with seven players hitting 20 or more home runs. Fletcher retired after the 2002 season. In retirement, he has occasionally done commentary on Toronto games for Rogers Sportsnet.
