About Cherie DeVaux
Cherie DeVaux is a Thoroughbred racehorse trainer who made history as the first woman to train a Kentucky Derby winner, capturing the 152nd running with 23-1 longshot Golden Tempo. A native of Saratoga Springs, New York, she comes from a family deeply involved in Standardbred racing. After studying pre-med in college, she pursued horses instead, working as a stable hand and later as an assistant trainer for Chuck Simon and, later, Chad Brown, for nearly a decade. She launched her own stable in 2018 with just eight horses, securing her first win on her 29th start. Her operation grew rapidly, delivering graded stakes victories with horses like Gam’s Mission, She Feels Pretty, Vahva, and More Than Looks. Based in Kentucky, she continues to build a strong record in top-level racing.
