About Cheick Kongo
At the age of 5, Cheick Kongo began studying martial arts by learning Kendo and Karate. After advancing at a rapid rate, Kongo began expanding his talents to Kickboxing, Savate, and Muay Thai. In 2001 at the age of 26, Kongo began his professional MMA career with 2 straight knockouts. In 2006, with a 7-2-1 career record, Kongo fought in UFC 61 where he opened up his UFC career with a TKO of Gilbert Aldana. He went on to spend 7 years with UFC, improving his career record to 18-8-2 before joining Bellator MMA. In Bellator Season 9, Kongo went on to win the Heavyweight Tournament Championship and was given a chance to fight for the Bellator Heavyweight Championship where he lost by unanimous decision. With a 22-9-2 record, Kongo is ranked as the #7 MMA fighter in the World outside of the UFC.
