About Charlie Spoonhour
Charlie Spoonhour had a love and a passion for the game of basketball and all he wanted to do in life was to teach kids the game he loved. He began as a high school head coach before moving up to the college ranks where he spent several seasons moving between assistant positions within collegiate basketball. He spent his longest tenure as an assistant with Missouri State University and after joining Nebraskas coaching staff in 1982, Spoonhour was given his first head coaching position with Missouri State. He spent 9 seasons with the Bears as they transitioned to the D1 level, making 5 trips to the NCAA Tournament and winning the Mid-Continent Conference (Missouri Valley Conference) Title 5 of his final 6 years. After finding success at Missouri State, Spoonhour was given the job at St. Louis University where in 7 seasons he took another 4 trips to the NCAA Tournament. In 2001 he took over the helm of UNLVs program until he retired from coaching in 2004.
