About Chad Knaus
Chad Knaus is a NASCAR crew chief. Knaus grew up around the racetracks while helping his father who was a racer. By 14 years old, Knaus served as a crew chief during his father’s championship season. In 1991, Knaus moved to North Carolina to pursue a career in national stock car racing. Knaus’ stock car racing career began when he worked with Stanley Smith’s stock car team and shortly after he was employed on the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports team that was raced by Jeff Gordon. Between 1993-97, Knaus advanced from being a general fabricator to managing the entire chassis and body construction for the team. After the 1997 season, Knaus served as a car chief for Dale Earnhardt, Inc. In the 2002 season, Knaus returned to Hendrick Motorsports and became the crew chief of the No. 48 car driven by Jimmie Johnson. Together, Knaus and Johnson won seven total championships, including a historic five title run from 2006-2010.
