Katherine Legge

British professional race car driver Katherine Legge made her name through her diverse racing career that included open-wheel competition along with touring cars and endurance racing and hill climbs and stock cars. Her racing career started in karts before she moved through Formula Ford and Formula Renault and finally Formula Three. She became the first woman to achieve Zetec pole position in 2000 and earned BRDC's Rising Star award during 2001.

Legge moved to the United States in 2005 where she won her Toyota Atlantic debut at Long Beach while becoming the first woman to win an open-wheel developmental series victory in North America. The 2006 season with PKV Racing brought her to Champ Car where she became the first female driver to lead laps during the Milwaukee event. Her racing career took a new path into sports car and endurance competition where she achieved four GTD wins and multiple class podium finishes at the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

The versatile driver returned to IndyCar racing to compete in multiple Indianapolis 500s after setting the fastest female qualifying time at the 2023 event. She gained e.l.f. Cosmetics sponsorship because she became the first female driver to race at Indy with a beauty brand partner.

Legge achieved history in 2025 when she became the first woman to participate in a NASCAR Cup Series race since 2018 behind the wheel of the No. 78 Chevrolet for Live Fast Motorsports. Legge drives part-time in the Cup Series and Xfinity Series while maintaining sponsorships from e.l.f., DROPLight and Sherfick and others.

She published the children's book Kat’s Magic Helmet which serves to motivate girls to pursue their dreams. Through her work as a STEM ambassador for the Girl Scouts and her roles as triathlete and skier and cyclist and yogi and vegan she advocates for diversity and women's inclusion throughout motorsports competitions at every level.

Throughout her extensive career spanning more than 240 starts and eight wins and fifteen podiums and an Indy pole and significant NASCAR achievements she established herself as an audacious trailblazer in racing.
