About Cara Beth Burnside
Cara-Beth Burnside is a top female athlete in skateboarding and snowboarding. Burnside began skateboarding at 10 years old and she would practice tricks for six or seven hours everyday. At 23, she began competing professionally against men. In the early 1990s, Burnside took up snowboarding and many people told her to stick with skateboarding. This negativity allowed her to work harder on her snowboarding skills. By 1995, her hard work paid off as she was ranked second in the world. So far in her career, Burnside has won two X Games gold medals, five Vans Triple Crown titles and four All Girls Skate Jam titles. She has also competed in the 1990 Nagano Winter Olympics and she regularly placed in the top 5 of the Winter X Games. Burnside is the first woman to have a signature skate shoe. Burnside was the first president of the Action Sports Alliance and she has opened up doors for many female extreme athletes and proved that females can compete in sports that are seen as too extreme and dangerous for them.
