Bruce Arians Biography

Bruce Arians is a Virginia Tech product and was the starting quarterback for the Hokies from 1971 to 1974.  Upon earning his degree from Virginia Tech he served as a graduate assistant at his alma mater and then landed assistant coaching gigs at Mississippi State and Alabama from 1978 to 1982 before landing his first head-coaching job at Temple in 1983.  During six years as the head coach at Temple he led the Owls to 21 wins and then headed to the NFL as the running backs coach for the Kansas City Chiefs from 1989 to 1992.  From 1993 to 1995 he served as the offensive coordinator at Mississippi State before heading back to the NFL as the tight ends coach for the New Orleans Saints.  In 1997 he served one more stint at Alabama as the Crimson Tide’s offensive coordinator and then headed to the NFL for good.  From 1998 to 2011 Arians saw time as an assistant with the Indianapolis Colts, Cleveland Browns, and Pittsburgh Steelers before being named the interim head coach of the Colts in 2012 and landing his current position as the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals in 2013.  He led the Cardinals to 49 wins and two NFC playoff appearances in seven seasons and was named the 2012 AP NFL Coach of the Year.  After taking a year away from the game, Arians was named head coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2019.
