About Bonnie Blair
Bonnie Blair is one of the top speed skaters of all-time, having won five Olympic gold medals in speed skating for the United States from 1988 to 1994. Blair was born in New York and raised in Champagne, Illinois, where she began sharpening her skills on the ice at a young age. After graduating from Centennial High School in her hometown she moved to Milwaukee to train with the USA national speed skating team, and quickly became a star. During her first Olympic games in 1984 she finished eighth in the 500-meter, but gained needed experience that would vault her to the top of the speed skating world four years later. In 1988 she returned as a savvy veteran and took home a gold medal in the 500-meter and a bronze medal in the 1,000-meter at the 1988 Calgary Olympics. Not satisfied, she continued to train and won two more gold medals in the 500-meter and 1,000-meter in 1992 and then repeated that performance at the 1994 Lillehammer Olympic games. For her accomplishments she was named the 1994 AP Female Athlete of the Year and has been inducted into the United States Olympic Hall of Fame.
