Nancy Kerrigan

Nancy Kerrigan is one of the most beloved American figure skaters of all time. Kerrigan began to skate when she was six years old at a local rink. In the next few years, she developed her skills on the ice and by the time she was nine, she had won her first figure skating medal.

Her career began to take off when she finished fourth in the junior level of the 1987 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. At the senior level, she won silver and bronze medals respectively at the 1991 and 1992 World Championships.

Kerrigan then won bronze at the 1992 Olympics. Her greatest competitive arc came next in the face of adversity. In January of 1994, Kerrigan was clubbed in the knee by a police baton at the U.S. Championships. She rebounded from that horrific incident to capture a silver medal at the Olympics just seven weeks later.

Kerrigan has continued to be a popular figure as a keynote speaker and product endorser since retiring from competition. She was inducted into United States Figure Skating Hall of Fame in 2004.
