Blake Butera Biography

Blake Butera is the manager of the Washington Nationals and, at 33, became the youngest person to hold the position in MLB history. A former Boston College infielder (2011–2015) who still ranks in the program’s top ten for hits, walks, and games played, he went undrafted but played three minor-league seasons with the Marlins and Rays organizations. Butera quickly shifted to coaching. At age 25, he managed the short-season Hudson Valley Renegades (2018), then led the Single-A Charleston RiverDogs to back-to-back Carolina League titles (2021–2022) while earning consecutive Manager of the Year honors. From 2023–2025, he served as Tampa Bay’s minor-league field coordinator, overseeing the development of prospects like Junior Caminero and Shane Baz.  Butera emphasizes analytics, player relationships, and aggressive base-running for the rebuilding Nationals.
