About Billy Napier
Billy Napier is the head football coach at James Madison. He previously spent parts of four seasons coaching the Florida Gators, having his greatest success in 2024 when the team went 8-5.
Napier had a remarkable run of success at Louisiana and previously learned under some of the best minds in college football as an assistant. In each of his four seasons with the Ragin' Cajuns, they reached the Sun Belt Championship Game. Napier compiled three ten-win seasons and was named Sun Belt Coach of the Year in 2019. The following season, his team finished in the top 25.
Napier learned from Nick Saban and Jimbo Fisher among others during his run as an assistant coach. He also spent time as an offensive coordinator at Clemson and Arizona State. Napier began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Clemson in 2003 after playing quarterback in-state at Furman. He was a two-year starter for the Paladins and led them to the I-AA National Championship Game in 2001.
