Olympic Greats Mia Hamm and Shawn Johnson Speak at ULM’s Lyceum Series March 9th

Two standout female athletes are coming to speak at the University of Louisiana Monroe. On March 9th, Mia Hamm and Shawn Johnson will take part in ULM's Lyceum Series. 

The event is sponsored by the ULM Student Government Association and held in Brown Auditorium on campus at 7 p.m. Hamm and Johnson are the first athletes to ever take part in the series. 

They will participate in an interview-style moderated discussion. Student tickets are $5, faculty and staff can get a discounted rate of $15 and general admission seats are $25. 

Johnson won four medals in gymnastics at the 2008 Olympics. She also won five gold medals in her career at the Pan American Games and took three golds home at the 2007 World Championships. 

Johnson has become a bestselling author and entrepreneur in her retirement from competition. She won season nine of "Dancing with the Stars" and finished runner-up on the All-Star edition of the show. 

Hamm is widely credited with popularizing women's soccer in America. She scored 158 goals, which currently ranks third in international history. 

During her career, Hamm won two World Cups and two Olympic gold medals. She is a five-time U.S. Soccer Player of the Year and two-time women's FIFA World Player of the Year.
