Iconic Nebraska Football Coach Tom Osborne Keynotes Heartland United Way Campaign Kickoff

Even in retirement, iconic Nebraska coach Tom Osborne has no shortage of speaking engagements keeping him busy these days. The Heartland United Way decided to kick off their new campaign with Osborne on Friday. 

The event was held at the Bosselman Conference Center in Grand Island, Nebraska. The goal for the Heartland United Way is to reduce childhood poverty and they are looking to raise $1.4 million this year. 

They have already raised about 45% of their goal. Osborne talked about the differences in young people today and the challenges they face. 

Osborne presided over the Cornhuskers for 25 years and amassed a record of 255-49-3. in that time frame, Nebraska won 13 conference championships and three national titles. 

Osborne was the National Coach of the Year in 1994 and won seven Big 8 Coach of the Year awards. He spent his entire coaching career at Nebraska, starting out as an assistant in 1968 before being promoted to head coach in 1973. 

Osborne was also the school's assistant athletic director from 1979-1998 and the head AD from 2007-13. He served the state for three terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.
