Hall of Famer Barry Larkin played his entire 19-year career at shortstop for the Cincinnati Reds.  The 12-time All-Star was one of the greatest to ever play the position.  Larkin was the 1995 National League MVP, a three-time Gold Glover winner, and nine-time Silver Slugger recipient.  He was born and raised in Cincinnati and has his number retired by the Reds in addition to being in the team’s Hall of Fame.  Cincinnati swept the Oakland A’s in the 1990 World Series and Larkin hit .353 to lead the way.  In 1997, He was the first Reds player to be named team captain since Big Red Machine shortstop Dave Concepcion retired in 1988.  Larkin is also a member of the College Baseball Hall of Fame, having starred at Michigan.  He was a two-time All-American, two-time Big 10 Player of the Year, and led the Wolverines to two College World Series.  While in college, Larkin was on the inaugural U.S. Olympic baseball team and in retirement he coached Team USA in the World Baseball Classic.  Larkin is currently an analyst for ESPN on Baseball Tonight and previously provided commentary for the MLB Network.  Larkin’s son, Shane, is a point guard in the NBA.
