About William Andrews
William Andrews is a former NFL running back best known for his tenure with the Atlanta Falcons. Selected in the third round of the 1979 NFL Draft from Auburn University, Andrews quickly emerged as one of the league’s elite rushers in the early 1980s. A powerful, versatile back with excellent vision and receiving skills, he earned two Pro Bowl selections (1980, 1981) and led the NFC in rushing in 1981. Andrews posted four 1,000-yard rushing seasons in his first five years and set franchise records. His promising career was derailed by a severe knee injury in 1984, followed by a brief comeback, and he retired after the 1986 season. Inducted into the Atlanta Falcons Ring of Honor, Andrews remains one of the franchise’s all-time greats. Post-football, he has stayed connected to the sport and community. His combination of production and toughness earned him respect as one of the standout running backs of his era.
