About Wayne Embry
Wayne Embry’s 11 year NBA career saw him make the All-Star team five straight times. Embry suited up for the Cincinnati Royals, Boston Celtics, and Milwaukee Bucks from 1959-1969. A championship came his way while playing for the Celtics in 1968. He was around many of the stars of his day including Oscar Robertson, Jerry Lucas, and Bill Russell. Embry was the center on the Bucks inaugural team. Also a pioneer in the front office, he became the first African-American general manager in the NBA. Embry helped pair Oscar Robertson and Lew Alcindor together in Milwaukee, which resulted in an NBA title. He was also the Executive of the Year twice during his time with the Cleveland Cavaliers. His versatile work across the league was honored by induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999. Embry wrote an autobiography, “The Inside Game: Race, Power, and Politics in the NBA”, with Mary Schmitt Boyer.
