About Walt Weiss
Walt Weiss was one of the most consistent performers in Major League Baseball at the shortstop position throughout the 1990s. Weiss made his debut with the Oakland Athletics and had a banner 1988 season. He won the American League Rookie of the Year award and helped the A's reach the World Series for the first time since 1974. The following year, Oakland would come up victorious in the Fall Classic. Weiss played with the franchise through the 1992 season and had another proud career distinction as the starting shortstop in the inaugural 1993 season of the Florida Marlins. He also starred for both the Colorado Rockies and Atlanta Braves before retiring in 2000. His tenure with the Braves included a World Series trip in 1999. Weiss stayed close to the Rockies organization after retiring in 2000, eventually becoming the team's manager in 2012. He had previously been a special instructor in the organization and the head coach at Colorado high school power Regis Jesuit.
