About Vince Papale
Vince Papale was the subject of an inspiring story out of Philadelphia when at age 30 he became the oldest rookie to play in the NFL. Prior to his professional career, Papale was a high school track star who attended St. Johns University on a track scholarship for the pole vault. Following his college career, Papale became a teacher at his former high school on top of playing semi-professional football. In 1974, Papale received a tryout with the Philadelphia Bell of the World Football League and earned a spot as a wide receiver. Following two seasons with the Bell, he was introduced to coach Dick Vermeil of the Philadelphia Eagles who granted Papale a private tryout and ended up offering him a spot on the team. Papale played wide receiver and special teams for the Eagles from 1976-1978 and played in 41 of his 44 games. Following his career with the Eagles, Papale has been a motivational speaker around the country and was the inspiration for the Disney film, Invincible.
